relocating knock sensor

Hi guys! Sorry if this has been asked before, I've been searching for the last half hour with nothing. I have a 90 TPI 350 in a Jeep, I installed some shorty headers and now cannot put the knock sensor in either one of the holes on the bottom of the block. I have been running with a 3.9k resistor in line, but this weekend got a code 43. I have yet to measure the resistance of the resistor, but I have been hearing a definate spark knock so I would like to add the sensor back. Thank you in advance for any help!

Why won't it fit in either side? The headers are that tight?
What about where the stock oil pressure sender/switch is mounted down by the oil filter. If you are not using that for the switch like my 92 "TPI" requires, then you could use that hole, should be the same thread. But it would be best to place it closer to the cylinders!

Yes, unfortunatly, they are THAT tight to the block, I can't get it in either of the holes. I see a threaded hole just above the oil filter (possible hole for clutch linkage??) that is already threaded, but is the wrong thread (too small) I may try to drill and tap. An easier solution would be to use an adapter, if possible. Would that be moving it too far away from the block, though?

Yes, that would be too far. The sensor's sensivity is directly related to how far in the block it sits and how tightly it is screwed in.

I beleive there is another port where GM installed the oil pressure sensor on the 89 GTA to the left and below the distributor. Even though it is a slightly different engine my S10 Blazer 4.3l knock sensor occupies that spot from the factory. If GM used it location must not be as critical as torque.
