I plan on changing my fuel filter asap and I need to know which fuse on the fuse block is for the fuel pump.

In the haynes manual i have it said it is says "FP" by the fuse, however, there is no such marking on my fuse panel.


I have a 91 Trans AM GTA with a 350 tpi if that helps.

There is no fuel pump fuse per se for your car other than the 20 AMP in-line fuse that is for the fuel pump relay and is located near the battery in the engine bay. There is a fuse on the fuse panel that is marked FAN-FP in 1990 that has nothing to do with the fuel pump. On the 1982 - 84 firebirds & camaros there was a seperate fuse for the fuel pump, in 1985 it became the FP-CLTR fuse and only applied to some models. In 1987 or 88 it became the FP-INJ2 fuse until 1989. In 1992, the fuse panel had no reference to the fuel pump. Kind of long winded for your answer.

 

An easier solution is to just unplug the connector from the fuel pump itself.

 

You could do that if you have the room to get under the car and reach it. But you don't need to do that or pull a fuse. Just open the gas cap to vent pressure in the tank and relieve fuel pressure at the fuel rail (where applicable) if you want to. Then change the fuel filter and be sure to use two wrenchs to loosen and tighten the fittings.

 

Ok I guess i'll take a try at vented through ther gas cap. Just seemed easier to pull a fuse and let the pressure out of the line. Oh well. Haha next obstacle, changing my spark plugs. Pain in the a** from what i hear
