Cam suggestions

I am currently in the process of building a 383 stroker for my 89. It will be a TPI motor. What I need to know is how do I pick a cam to go with the motor? I have had lots of info on the subject but too much of it conflicts. Som say you need a cam built for tpi others say for the computer and others say it dont matter as long as it matches the heads. Well Here is the setup what do you guys think?

1984 350 4-bolt main (out of a 3/4 ton HD Van) Blue Printed, bored .30 over
350, 1985-earlier cast, external balance, 383 stroker crankshaft (may change to a forged)
Forged/Cast Flat top Pistons (havent ordered yet deciding on brand)
Edelbrock Performer Centerbolt For Corvette
Aluminum Roller Rockers
Cam? LT1? LT4? something else? Must be roller cam
Port matched, flow optimized TPI Intake

MIght even just get the High-Flo T.P.I. System - Baseplate/Runners (idle-5500 rpm) Anyone use this?

One other question While Im here what do you think of converting the engine over to reverse flow like the LT1?

Any help would be awsome

As for Pistons Check Out Probe Ind. http://www.probeindustries.com/
now for a cam ahhhhhhhh welll it depends on what your going to do with the car. You do want The Cam, heads, Intake matched.

You dont want a intake that makes power from 3500-7500 with a cam that makes power form 1500-5000 With poor flowing heads. This would make for a nightmare to tune and Won't ever make you happy for your investment.
-Decide on the intake your gonna Run.
-Then Get the Cam that will make power in the RPM range of the intake
-Look at AFR 195 Heads

Learn to Burn your own proms and tune away.

I already do proms. Just not for 383s, not to many people in my area do 383, most are just good old 350s

Well You already headed on the right track. Just Pick a cam in the rpm range that the intake operates in. Also DD2000 can be a little helpful in picking a Cam. The HP # won't be exact but it will show you HP/TQ differences between cams. But somebody is bound to dissagree. LOL

just my .02

Not much difference, the tuning principle is still the same.

I'd say the cam will depend on what intake system you go with. If you go hi flow everything I'd say the TPIS ZZ-9X cam is your best bet. I've modeled probably 50 different cams on my engine using Dyno 2000 and it's the best I've come across. The cam I'm using is good for the heads I'm running but with better flowing heads the ZZ-9X is a better choice. I'm hoping to upgrade to E-Tec 200's and a ZZ-9 cam and Stealth Ram in the future. So, I've done a lot of work choosing the best combination. Right now my SLP runners are my choke point.

Flat tops with vette heads?????
Aren't they 60cc?
Are you looking for 11-1 CR?

Get the 12cc or 18cc dish pistons depending on cam selection.
A flat top w/67cc heads and zero deck is about 10.3-1. Unless your going with a low 200@ .050 cam, you want in the 10's on CR.

There are better heads out there.
AFR's aren't too much more.
Or Dart 200cc iron heads for less.
The 170cc EB's will cost you some HP above 5k if your leaning that way.
Try 40hp going to the bigger head.
I'll find out soon when I get my new heads on.
A scat 9000 crank will save you a few $100. I'd get the Scat 7/16 cap screw rods too. About $280.
Make sure to get a crank to match your rod length.
