Another (related?) issue

I posted earlier about the L98 being slow as all ****, but i have another issue which *may* be related to my previously posted problem, I need to have my battery tested to rule that out, which I'm going to do tomorrow, but I need to charge my battery to get the car to start everytime, then I can let it run for a while (plenty of time to allow the alternator to charge the battery) and it idles cruddy and has no power, but it runs, then when i shut it off and then try to start it back up *MOST OF THE TIME* it is dead, like I get a click from the starter and that is it, no turning whatsoever, but it's wierd, because then all I have to do is put the charger back on the battery and 5 seconds later the car will start right up... this charger is a POS from walmart and I know it takes at least 10 minutes to charge a battery that is dead, so this is confusing me.... any ideas at all? im really slammin my head into a wall on this one. Alternator related???!??!

Try this, when it is started take a screwdriver that is not magnatized(sp) and touch it to the rear of the alternator in the center, if it gets pulled in like a magnet the the alternator is working. I would suspect this is your problem, but if it is not then use a volt meter and check the battery while the car is running and then when it is shut off and see if the voltage drops suddenly, that would indicate the battery is at fault or you have a short in your electrical system.

Take the battery and alternator and have them both tested. A lot of the larger aftermarket automotive chains will do this for free. If you don't feel like doing that then start the car and remove the negative cable from the battery while the car is running. If the car stops then you know that it was running off the battery and its something in the charging system.
