Fuel Pump on a 88 Formula w/ 350

I've found an 88 Firebird Formula with the 350 and less than 100k miles for $1500 b/o and all it needs is a fuel pump. How expensive is a fuel pump and how hard is it to install? This seemed the best place to ask, as it somewhat has something to do with the engine.

Not really "hard" just a PITA. Here this will tell u everything u need to do. I dont suggest getting another in tank pump if you plan on modding.

Mine wasn't hard, took about 6 hours of work, only because I had to drain my tank (I had 3/4 tank when it went out) and the syphone was hella slow. After I dropped the rear down, I pulled my exhaust off at the cat and laid the I-Pipe on the top of the axle, dropping the tank was pretty easy. Putting the new pump in was a piece of cake, come to think of it, the whole job was easy. It would have been rougher if my exhaust was welded all the way (I helped a friend who had welded exhaust, it was a bit of a pita to get the tank to drop)

I did away with the pulsator when I did mine, no problems yet.

While I'm in there, is there anything else i should change? like the fuel relay, sender, filter, etc? Also, how much will all these parts cost?

Well You should replace your Strainer for the pump (some places require it to get the warranty), pulsator, filter, and tank o-ring.

I choose the cheap route for the pulsator, I removed it and used a piece of fuel line in it's place, and clamped it on both ends.

Unless your sender was giving you problems, I would just leave it alone.

I would replace your fuel filter along with the new pump if it hasn't been done in a while, or if you don't know when it was done yet.

The o-ring on the tank should be replaced also, I would definetly go to GM for that part, since the ones that come with the pumps are usually just o-rings. The GM one has tabs on it and seems to fit best.

So for parts... probably around 70 for a generic replacement fuel pump, 140 for a high performance pump. I believe a new pulsator was 22 bux, where a piece of hose and clamps would be a lot cheaper. The fuel filter should be around 6-8 bux, and the tank o-ring can't be more than 10 bux. So anywhere between 108 to 180 depending on what you buy and where you get it.

I didn't replace the o-ring because I was planning on using the one that came with the pump, but it didn't fit, and I had no transportation while my car was down. I also didn't do the filter cause I did it less than 3 months ago.
