What's this hole for??

I am slowly restoring my new Z28 and the intake was a project I attacked this past weekend. The intake air runner (or what the correct term is) has a threaded 1/2" hole in it for something. I suspect a sensor (maybe AIT?) or possibly air return line from the air pump.
I can't find any info in the manuals so I'm turning to you, guys.
If it's not for the AIT, then where is this sensor located? Manual does not show it in the sensor locatino diagram?

Thanks a billion
Lou

Looks like someone's relocated the AIT. That's definitely an add-on bung.

On my 1987 305 TPI it is under the plentum back by the distributor (rear of Plentum) above the fuel regulator. I have heard of guys moving this sensor to the air box, not the runner. They move them to the air box so the sensor is testing the incoming air temp before it is heated, doing this gives you better/crisper throttle responce.

PS-now I can view the photo, that is definitly what goes in that hole, the IAT. If I were you, that is where I would keep it. BTW, the runners are what take the incoming air from the plentum to the intake.

Yes looks like an IAT sensor relocation to me. The advantage to having it there is that the air box does not easily get heat soaked, so you're going to get a more accurate temperature reading for computer control.

Like bobsroc said, the stock sensor is on the underside of the plenum, toward the distributor. Very difficult to get at without removing the plenum.

That air intake is probably one from a v6 car as thats where the IAT is at on them.

Looks identical to my v-6 Camaro piece. This is where the v-6 has the IAT sensor.

Thanks a million, guys! I appreciate the answers.
I am not surprised this is a runner from a V6. I got it as a spare part with the car and it wasn't on at that time. This car is definitely mismatched all over, I can tell you that.
I will definitely relocate the IAT to the runners. Have been planning to do this from the start but didn't know where it actually was until now . And couldn't find it anywhere on the intake.
I assume the V6 runners are same size as for the V8.

Thanks again.
Great board!
Lou
