TPI Pontiac 400
Hello
Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew of a TPI kit for a pontiac 400. Alot of the manufacturers I see make them for big block chevy's, but it's hard to find them for Pontiac's. Is this something I would just have to piece together?

the only way to inject a pontiac, oldsmobile, or older buick and cadillac V8 would be to use an aftermarket throttle body designed to take the place of a carburator. there is no port injection setup available for any of these engines unless you custom drill an intake for injectors.

That's what I kind of thought. I've seen some TBI setups, but are they any better than a carb?

From what I've heard, a TPI would choke the 400 (no enough airflow).
If it existed, you would be better off with an LT1 style manifold on the 400.

There are no TPI style intakes, but you can get EFI manifolds for traditional Pontiacs and other "off-brands" from Edelbrock now. They are basically either Torker or Victor style and come with injector pockets cast in and use a 4bbl style throttle body. You can buy just the individual pieces (i.e. bare manifold with injector pockets, fuel rails, etc) on up to a complete system including throttle body, injectors, rails, computer etc.

hey, thanks for the info. I'm just looking at some options on weather or not to stick with my carb setup or go EFI on the 400. Obviously the car was fuel injected originally with the 305, but now all the electronics are pretty much out of the car. Do I get some sort of wiring harness when going to EFI? Also, would I have to get a new distributor? Right now I have an Accel HEI distributor. I don't think it working properly at the moment, but that is something for later. I think it's an older one anyway.
