engine codes

I got these codes from another thread; does anybody know where to start looking for the actual problem? The car hasn't beeen running well lately and dropped off almodt 10 mph last time at the track.

TROUBLE CODES
12. No reference pulses to Electronic Control Module (ECM).

36. Burn off at mass air flow sensor OR
Problem in transmission shift OR
Fault in direct ignition system OR
Missing pulses in electronic spark timing signal

Transmission: 700R4
Well since you have a TPI the code 36 will = Mass Air Flow (MAF) Burn-Off Circuit. The code 12 is a normal code that you should always get when you check for codes. It simply means that the engine isn't running and the ECM isn't getting a reference pulse from the distributor because the distributor isn't turning.
