injector leak causes

this may sound wierd but what causes an injector to leak down. is it because on an internal failure of the f.i. or is it because of the o-rings on it, or are the o rings only to seal from fuel escaping when the fi s are under normal operation? and is a proper test to check for fuel leakage from the injectors is to pop the fuel rail up with everything still connected and turn the key to prime the system and see if anyfuel is leaking? thanks

Leaking injectors can be caused by an internal failure of the pintle/windings, a dirty pintle/pintle seat. The O rings on the injectors are to seal it in the fuel rail and intake.

I was pretty sure I had leaky injectors due to my hard starting problem after the car sat 30 + minutes. I unbolted the fuel rail and lifted it up. I then primed the system and waited. After about 10 minutes, I seen drip drip drip from three injectors. I sent them to rich@cruzinperformance.com. If I recall correctly, he said usually they leak because they are dirty. But if they are leaking and its not due to being dirty, you will have to replace the injector[s].

He was confident it was because my injectors were old and needed a cleaning, and he was right. I got them back and the car starts and runs great!
