Serpentine Belt system Question
Serpentine Belt system Question
I have performed a search here and found a lot of info about serpentine systems, but not all of my questions have been answered.
I am installing a TPI motor. It is an early TPI and doesn't have the serpentine setup. I would like a serpentine setup.
I don't need (or want) the air pump/smog pump.
I do need the alternator, power steering pump and A/C compressor.
The 89-92 stock F-Body TPI serpentine system would work, but they include an air pump/smog pump in their setup. I have read about an Air pump/Smog Pump delete pulley, but if I am starting from scratch, I would rather just get a system which doesn't use one.
I have read that the stock serpentine systems from 90's TBI trucks do not use air pumps, but will not work because they interfere with the TPI intake ducting.
Summit racing advertises a GM Performance Parts serpentine system that does not include an air pump. Is this similar (or interchangable) with the truck setup? It also includes the accessories which makes it kind of pricey, especially if you already have good, working accessories.
QUESTION: Does anyone in this forum know if the truck/TBI serpentine system could be used if the TPI intake was re-routed using a 90 degree elbow? Or is there some other reason/limiting factor that prevents it from being used?

Some of the Truck serpentine set-ups would hit the water neck of the intake. Just get one off of a F-body or caprice. Leave off the air pump and follow the belt re-routing instructions as said in a tech article.
