what is the average temperature and oil pressure suposed to be? today when i drove the car teh temp would go up to 240-250 degrees usually it stays around 190-200...to me even 190 seems like alot but this is my first v8 car so im not sure what its suposed to be at. also the oil pressure jumps around. it usually is around 30-50, sometimes it goes over 60 (thats where the guage stops), and at idle it even dropped below 30. at idle the rpms are at like 200-250rpm at a complete stop...that doesnt seem right to me either. the car has digital guages so i watch the guages constantly. is all of this normal or is something wrong with the car. i just bought it last week and took it to get emmsion tested today and it failed. if anyone has some helpful info please add your 2cents, im kinda worried i bought a peice of **** thats gonna sit in my driveway for a long time cuz it has so much stuff wrong with it.

 

Oil pressure should be about 10 psi per 1000 rpm. At upper rpm with good oil it's not as important as long as it's got good pressure, say 40 to 45 psi.

The water temperature should stay below 220. If you are going over, you have a problem or your gauge is wrong, or both. You need to check your cooling system from proper operation.

 

My temp stays around 175 w/ the secondary fan on all the time, and primary fan on at 180 off at 175 and a 160* stat... but its not uncommon for these cars to hover around 200 w/ stock thermostats...

he is right about oil pressure... 10 psi for ever 1000 rpm...
