Alt plug-diff between tbi and tpi?
I have a orig 89 tbi car that was converted to tpi and the alt plug has only 2 wires. I am putting a serp set up in my vette from an f-body but the plugs I see on line from the parts stores shows 3 wires, are there diff plugs or is the pic wrong?
Thanks

The alternator used on all these cars from 87-on is the CS130. Depending on the application, the alternator will have anywhere from 1 to 4 wires in it. Only 1 wire is needed to activate the voltage regulator. The alternators are compatible, you can take the one from the 2 wire plug and put it in with the 3 wire plug, and vice versa.
www.alternatorparts.com has a page about rebuilding CS130 alts, and they give a detailed listing of the function of each wire in the plug.
BTW, nice car. I also have a black 89 firebird.
