L98 mods - help :)

Hello everybody

Somedays ago I noticed that my GTA have blown head gasket

so I must take the heads off.

I'm planning to little tune up the motor. It's a 1989 L98 from Vette C4 (113 alu heads). The car have swapped T5 trans , rear end is 3.42:1. 1 5/8 headers with dual exhaust. smog pump removed, EGR too.

I'm planning to port heads and TPI intake, install the AFPR and CAI

What camshaft should I use? I'm targeting for streetable car with lots of power under my fuzzy leg

and what springs for that cam? should i change the rockers studs?

thanks in advance

greetings from Poland
Pawel

When I had my L98 with '113 heads, I was very happy with a GM HOT cam. Slightly lumpy idle but still made good vacuum.

You can order the whole kit from most GM dealers, here's a description from gmgoodwrench.com
-----------------------------------------------------------------
12480002 350 Hot Cam Kit
This off-highway camshaft kit has the major valve train component to convert production LT1 engine for showroom stock racing, or hop up your small block Chevrolet V8 that was originally equipped with a roller tappet camshaft. The 1.6 roller rockers, light weight valve spring caps, special designed valve springs and hot camshaft offers a significant gain in horsepower at a reasonable price. This kit includes the following items: one camshaft P/N 24502586, 16 roller rocker arms kit P/N 12370839, 16 valve springs P/N 12551483, 16 valve caps P/N 10212808, 16 valve keys P/N 24503856, 16 valve spring shims P/N 10212809.

LPE 211/219 cam

comp cams 210-220

tpis ZZ9 212-226

LPE 211/219 is a great cam, as well as the ZZ4. For the price they simply can not be beat. LT4 is a little big for most TPI's. Just call Summit and tell them you need springs for a .550 lift cam for your heads.

Thanks guys.

So I bought

ZZ4 cam
springs for .550lift

should I go with any roller rockers or stay with stock 1.5?

what about valves? 1.94 and 1.5 valves are ok for this setup?

regards

Roller rockers are a good investment to have. You can get them in 1.5 or 1.6 ratios for chevy's. They will last longer, have less friction and can be made more precise and stronger. If you have money then use it on a pair of 1.6 roller rockers. 1.6 will give you more lift, but you might have to get a taller valve cover than.
