Runner Gasket / Sealer Question ???
Hey guys,
Anybody out there installed the runners using JUST the black 02 safe silicone rubber?
Reason I'm asking is I have an Edelbrock base manifold someone has ported to the MAX and there's really not enough metal between the runners to hold a real gasket.
I'm thinking about just using the same sealer that goes on the two China walls to form a seal for my runners.
What do "ya'll" think about that?
All opinions / experience welcome.

RTV is great stuff, and will probably work for awhile, but if there's not enough material to hold a paper gasket then it certainly won't hold RTV for long.
If you're talking about the divider between the paired ports then it's not the end of the world if you lose the seal....it's manifold vacuum on both sides.

I figured since some run siamesed runners that the seal between the two wouldn't matter much.
All the runner gaskets I've installed are a composite type sandwich of a gasket.
There's only about 1/32 to 1/16 between the two sides.
It's pretty close.
Anybody USED black silicone sealer in this application?

It should work as long as you use the same method between the runners and the plenum and the runners/base. That is to maintain the mating surface. Ie, if you used paper on the runners/base and used RTV on the runners/plenum you will be putting the runners in a bind and potentiall creating a bad seal.

The concern I'd have using RTV for a gasket there would be that it will probably "squish" out into the airflow path...kinda like negating the port work you've done,
