ok i thought i had the issue sorted out, and i registered and insured the car yesterday and finally took it out today. It now runs like CRAP, doesnt want to rev right, no power, wont go over 3k rpms, speedo wouldnt work etc. I pulled the codes again and all i got was code 51 again, bad prom or ecm. I figure since i already swapped out the comp it must be the "custom" PROM. I unplugged the computer and let it sit to clear the code, after about a min i tried it again, this time no code runs GREAT, revs soild sounds much better, i took it out and speedo now works and it feels right, i pulled back in my driveway, turned it off, then started it, and once again back to crap, with a ses code, i cleared it once again, then tried, back to good, you get the picture now i hope. So I KNOW the issue is COMP/PROM related, but i doubt ecm since it was swapped already. i guess i need a new PROM. i dont need a specific custom burn as much as a mild modified chip just to allow my engine to run (350 SD, 5spd, no vats, no air select/diverter valves, LT1 injectors, K&n filter, & full headers) but i can drive the car if i keep clearing the ecm before everytime i start it. oh well... I guess i'll buy a 92 350 tpi SD memcal from GM and find someone to modify it for me.

If 51 is "cylinder select error", your PROM is most likely the culprit. Mine was.

nah, code 51 is "incorret prom, incorrectly installed prom, defective prom, or defective ecm" i think the chip that the guy made is a piece of junk. i am already in contact with a local guy who can make me a new chip. hopefully that will fix it.

Closely inspect the pins and connections between the EPROM and CALPAK, and the CALPAK and ECM board socket. You might even want to meter for continutiy while moving the PROM in the socket.

What type of socket did you use to adapt the replacement PROM?

i dont have an adapter, the guy i got the harness/ecm/prom setup from modified the stock memcal itself. I spoke to a local guy by me that does chip burning and he also thinks its a dirty connection or loose pin between the ecm and PROM. He is going to help me out by trying to clean or fix it, otherwise i'm just going to buy a new memcal, Once we get past that point, I'm going to buy an adapter from him and then have him burn me a chip for my mods(not a hot chip, just a chip without vats air, etc). either way, hes going to help me out and hopefully thats all the problem is.
