Tpi build up....

Well first ive decided to buy this 88 IROC, if they sell it to me. Its a 5.0 auto

In the end ill eventually have either a 350 or 383, but for now i have about 1000-2000 to spend and i want to speed it up a little bit. i kno it needs sfc's and other suspension parts but for now i just want performance mods. Any suggestions?

There's a company on eBay offering custom tuned computers and I bookmarked them as they offer them for Cads and F cars as well and I own both. It can be iffy buying this type of product that offers many results for little cost. There is also the intake and exhaust that can improve engine performance... typically that's looked at first, before increasing engine size due to cost and ease

Do your exhaust first if you got thant kind of dough to spread around right off the bat.

Also get a good CAI in place, TB air foil, new plugs wires dizzy cap.

Not much else you can really to a 305 unless you want to cam it.

Also plug a good TQ converter in it if you 2000$

I planned on doing the exhaust first. prolly true duals w/X-pipe and headers. any suggestions on headers? im pretty sure long tubes but i dont kno how much clearance is an issue.

true duals and long tubes will probably take care of most of your $1-2k

Don't go true duals with X pipe. You will hate it.

Get a set of SLP headers which include Y-pipe and a Hooker cat back exhaust. You will love it.

I can't speak for anyone else but when still I had the 305 and stock exhaust manifolds on my car it ran slower with the 3" cat back. I would wait until I got the 350 for the exhaust.

1. Buy a 2800 RPM 9.5" lockup converter. It will be loads of fun and make your car much faster. It will also work with the 350...

2. Get an airfoil for the TB

3. Buy a set of K&N air filters. Be sure to gut your filter box, that is a big performance help.

Use any money left over to buy some good aluminum heads for the 350 your going to build..... The sooner you put that in the sooner you can start thrashing people.

If you really want a computer you can tune yourself, and you will need to if you build even a mild motor (350-400 hp). Go to the DIY PROM board and do some research on chip burning and chip replacements like the Romulator or Prominator (use the search engine). I picked up a Prominator for my car and I've already used it to make the drivability much better. If I had more time to play with it I think I could do a lot more for the car powerwise.

There is no doubt the the exhaust is the most restictive part of the car at this point and time, and it will bolt right up to your new set up right up to a 427 sbc. Time and time again it has been proven that the Air Foils do bascially squat! For performance wise that is. I bought one and no change in HP or Torque. Maybe a point. Exhaust is the way to go. I agree with John. SLP Headers, Y pipe and cat back system, and if you have some $$ left over... A cold air intake system

OH, and what ever you do... dont' buy those stupid overpriced aftermarket PRom chips from Hypetrtech etc. They do squat for the price. Buy the right equip. and learn to burn them yourself!!!

Get gears, you won't have to replace them when you get your bigger sbc.
