Valve adjustment?

I just dropped in a 383 roller motor into my Bird, and to make it run well, I had to adjust the lifters to almost zero lash. Is this not enough? I know on flat tappet, hydraulic lifters need to be turned down anywhere from 1/4 turn down to a full turn down. Are the rollers the same?

Hydraulic lifters (including the factory hydraulic roller lifters) have the valve adjustment set at 1/4 turn past zero lash, at least for the hi-output motors. That is how I adjust my valves, I found this adjustment in several books I have on modifying TPI motors.

Check the cam card it should tell you the required valve lash.
