Canister red plug = trouble

Hey guys
When i bought my car i noticed that the sensor that plugs into the canister on the front of the car on the passanger side was disconnected. I plugged it and went for a drive. As i was driving the car started missing really bad. THE Tac needle would go up and suddenly drop to 0 and go back up and drop again. I pulled over and unplugged the sensor and the car ran fine again.
What does this mean? That sensor is supposed to be plugged in

I have a 85 TA with a 305 TPI

thanks

Either you have a bad canister purge solenoid or a charcoal canister thats full of fuel. Probably the latter.

It's strictly an emissions device....if you don't have to have it for inspection, leave it unplugged.

you can toss that can in the garbage if your switching to a carb setup. I bet half of the EFI guys here dont even use it. Im running EFI and my canister is sitting in a landfill right now along with everything else connected to it.

If you live in an area where they will be checking emissions they certainly won't like the fact that you're pulling off the factory EFI setup and reverting to a carb.

IMO, you should fix the problem. It doesnt' cost any power, so why remove it?

Get a bottle of "emissions in a bottle" from Auto Zone. It works for me everytime.
