I have been troubleshooting on my car for the last 3 months, and we cant get it to run. I have replaced the fuel pump, filter, and maf. We got it to start but it was weird. My friend put a towel over the maf and the car started up and i immediately heard a squealing hissing type noise. I was wondering what i need to replace, because when you dont cover the maf the car wont start, please someone help. I was thinking maybe vacuum lines. o yeah and its a 305 tuned port injection 1988 irocz camaro.

Your description of the syptoms sounds like you may have a significant vacuum leak. You can unplug the MAF and start the engine safely. It may be easier for diagnosis of the vacuum problem.

Start by looking at all the major suspects, like the PCV system, power brake booster, and EGR.
