Replaced Charcoal Canister but.....

My old canister part number was 17088067 and I read on here during a search that the replacement is part # 17092110. The only problem is the new canister does not have the electrical plugin like the old one did. I started my car and let it run for a few minutes w/ the replacement and the SES light never came on. I also checked for codes and didn't get any.

The reason I replaced it is because of a strong gas smell from the front of the car. Sometimes I could even smell it while driving and other times just after I killed the car and walked around the front of it.

Is it safe to say I am ok if I don't get any codes or should I try to locate a charcoal canister w/ the electrical plugin?

Correct replacement is 17092109 (for an 88 Z) and has the solenoid.

I would use the one it's supposed to have for it to function correctly.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just ordered the correct canister with the # you gave me. Thanks again.

Before you replaced the EVAP canister, did you try installing a new filter on the bottom of the old one to allow it to purge? The '86 still used the filter:

Sorry. I missed the part about the '88 in your signature. I was looking at the User Name and presumed it was an '86. Just slap me....

You CAN get just a replacement purge solenoid, instead of the entire canister.
