A little Problem with my 5.0 TPI

i have a 1986 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI. well, when i start it up it runs really rough and stalls. but after givving it gas to warm up it runs better. then lately its just stopped running. it cranks and cranks and only sputters once and a while. the intake smells like gas when i remove the duct. what type of things should i check for?? The fuel pump comes on. it cranks. theres air getting to it. i know that theres a problem with the MAF sensor. but it ran before???

Does it have spark? My 86 started acting up intt. turned out the coil was toast. The opening in the center of the coil (where the spring off the carbon button contacts) was all distorted. May be simple ign prob.
