Firebird mystery(help)
I was changing the oil pump on my 350 firebird. I took the starter off and a couple bolts broke, i think the were just to hold the starter up. So i had to get a new cillinoid*.but i never replaced one of the bolts. I also had to raise the engine to get the oil pan off. well, i got everything put back on and went to start it and there was nothing. The interior lights would not evn come on when i turned the key half way. My lights came on fine and the interior lights came on when i turned the lights on. There were 6 wires that hooked to the cillinoid* four big one and 2 little ones. I put the bigs one on the bigger bolt and the smaller wires all on the smaller bolt. I thaught i did it right, but maybe not. i am very confused, and i would be greatful for any help. ".but i never replaced one of the bolts." Could one of those bolts be a ground? Could i have hooked the started up wrong?
SIX wires on the starter? There should be a smaller purple wire on the "S" terminal of the solenoid. There should also be the positive battery lead on the larger stud, as well as any other power leads (fuse link connections) on the large stud with the battery positive lead.
There should be no wire on the "R" terminal (if there even is one) on your '88. Some reman starters and replacement solenoids will have this terminal, but you will not use it on your '88.
