intermittently popping main fuse

once in a while when I go to start the car, I notice that the check engine light doesn't come on while cranking, and the 20 amp fuse by the battery is popped. It's not every time or I'd just go and track down the problem.... Not sure what could cause this. I tried going up to a 30 amp but same result.

I'm starting to think about running a new hot lead right from the battery for the aftermarket inline fuel pump I'm running. is it possible that it's pulling a bit too much juice?

Could be a bad ground or a short in the hot wire.

Hmmm... that's a good point. I should look for grounds in the harness. If there's no obvious ones, maybe I'll throw in an 'extra' ground somewhere. I know there are some grounds through the computer.

A short somewhere in the hot lead is possible, but I think I'm gonna rule that out as it only occurs during start up. I haven't had the thing pop while running.
