i put headers on my 89 formula and they didnt have A.I.R. The only problem I had was when I left the shop, about a half a mile away the SES light came on. But then after driving home it turned off, dont know which code it was though so it may not even be anything related.

Been covered in the PROM section I believe, there is some code that "tells" the ECM that AIR is on sometimes, which could lead to a false lean condition.
Tons of people run stock with AIR removed and no issues, if anything, it probably slightly affects MPG.

Yep, removed my air pump on an otherwise stock L98 Iroc, no codes, no issues, and it did affect my gas mileage, picked up on average of 1-2 mpg, now getting slightly over 20 mpg driving in the city. Larry.
