Code 22
I am having problems with a code 22 (low tps volts).
I have replaced the tps sensor 2 times & set it with a volt meter but the code keeps resetting.
I had a problem last summer & took it to a dealer who said the ecm & tps were bad so I replaced them both in Sept.
Well I stored the car for the winter in Oct. & I start it up a couple months later & the code pops up. I have heard something about problems with gas stabilizer, anybody know the specifics?
Is there anything that mimics this problem or could it be a wiring problem, any ideas would help!!!

This might help you some.
1)Clear the code.
1a)Disconnect TPS and jumper the 5v reference circuit (Grey)
to the TPS signal circuit (Blue wire) at the harness
connector.
1b)Start the engine and let idle until the code comes back.
1c)Ignition "ON", Engine stopped. Ground Diagnostic terminal.
1d) Did you get the code 22 again or code 21.
(it says if you get the code 21, adjust the TPS or replace it if it's not adjustable, but since you've already replaced it, you should get code 22 again).
2) Code 22 reappears
2a)Remove jumper.
2b)Check for the 5v reference signal from the ECM at the TPS
harness connector "C" or (Grey wire) to ground with a
voltmeter.
2c)Did you get 4-6 volts or under 4 volts.
3) 4-6 volts
3a)Open or Short to ground in signal circuit, Faulty ECM
connector or ECM. (since you've already replaced the
ECM, it's probaly not that).
4) Below 4 volts.
4a)Open or Short in the 5v circuit, Faulty ECM connector
or ECM. (Same here, probaly not the ECM itself since
it's been replaced).
The book I have for trouble shooting codes shows this for the wiring of the TPS for the '86 to '89 MAF TPI.
Sensor Ground (Black wire) - D2 at the ECM
TPS Signal (Blue wire) - C13 at the ECM
5v signal (Grey wire) - C14 at the ECM
Hope this helps.

Well I followed the instructions & it turns out I got a code 21!!! I hope this indicates just a bad TPS sensor or maybe it was just out of adjustment.
Thanks 92 Sleeper for your great info I think you have solved my problem.

I'm glad I could help, I hope it works out for you.
Now, heres some trouble shooting for Code 21.
1)Engine at normal operating temp.
1a)Diagnostic Term. Not grounded.
1b)Ignition "OFF". Clear codes.
1c)Start Engine and idle until Engine Service Light comes on.
1d)Ignition "ON", Engine stopped.
1e)Ground Diagnostic Term.
2)Code 21
2a)Diagnostic Terminal not grounded.
2b)Ignition "OFF". Clear codes.
2c)Disconnect sensor.
2d)Start Engine and idle until Service Light comes on.
2e)Ignition "ON", Engine stopped.
2f)Ground Diagnostic Term.
3)Code 21
3a)Check Ckt. 417 (Dark Blue wire) (C13 @ ECM) shorted to a
voltage source or Faulty ECM.
4)Code 22
4a)Probe TPS sensor Ground circuit at harness connector with
a test light to 12 volts.
5)Light "ON"
5a)Faulty TPS connector or sensor.
6)Light "OFF"
6a)Open sensor ground Ckt. 452 (Black wire) (D2 @ ECM),
Faulty Connection or Faulty ECM.

Thanks for the additional info. I found a bad connection on the TPS connector I installed last fall. AC Delco gave crimp on butt connectors with the pig-tail, one of them had corroded even though I sealed it with shrink tube. The shrink tube I used (from Home Depot had no adhesive to seal against the wire) so I soldered them & sealed with new shrink tube to make a weather tight fit.
Everything checks out OK & engine idles fine with no codes.
Thanks again for your info it was a lifesaver !!!!!!
