Egr
Egr
I'm new to the TPI world, so I need a little help.
Is it the EGR that is right in the middle of the lower intake manifold? There is a wire from mine that isn't hooked up to anything, so I'm assumming its not working. Is there any reason I need to keep it? The engine doesn't need any emissions crap cause its going in a 72 pickup, but if the computer needs this for some reason I can keep it. Also, there's a vacuum line hooked up to it, what's that for?
Thanks

Disk shaped piece held in with two bolts is EGR.
The wire you are talking about is probably the EGR temp sensor. I don't believe that exists on all year TPI, it did/does on '87/88.
Vacuum line runs to the EGR solenoid, mounted to the coil bracket.
That temp switch is used by the ECM to "see" the temp diff when EGR is commanded. That SHOULD trigger a check engine light when that temp change isn't seen, but I'm not positive on that.
Pretty sure EGR is something that can trigger a check engine, which means removing/disabling it mechanically (as opposed to changing PROM settings) will probably result in a CE light.

I believe you're 100% correct on all of that. The temp sensor wire is the only part I'm not confident of....
