Vortec / Hotcam combo and CA smog

FYI,

My car with vortec heads and hotcam passed the CA smog test.

I do have the following:

1. Fully hooked up EVAP canister
2. Working smog pump
3.SLP 1 3/4 headers W/ air
4. Air diverter valve/ soleniod is hooked up
5. SDPC external egr set up, and of course functioning egr valve.

Passed a visual as well, and my car is very modded- just all smog equipment is intact.

I know this question has come up before, heres the answer.

test operator said that the numbers looked good(clean) also.

Californians - go ahead and buy vortecs, run as big of cam that will pass ( stay at least 112 LS and well under 230deg @ 50 duration)

Put the myths to bed, cam your car wisely, Califorians don't be afraid to have a fast thirdgen, without nitrous

PS -I had a comp XE264HR before and it passed easily

That's good to here about it passing smog. I might be moving to CA in the near future. I still have to do my engine swap but I will be running the Hot Cam. I have a Stealth Ram and was gonna get some Trick Flow heads and when smog time comes I was just going to swap the stock intake back on. Do you have any quarter mile times. I've been thinking about going with the vortecs and using ASM siamesed runners instead of the HSR.

Sorry no times, as of yet-

But I can tell you it has a ton of torque.

Cars that it has either hung with ( side by side ) or passed
1. recently - NSX - probably had some mods as well
2. M3 2001+ ( the newer 330 hp style)
3. WRX both wersions ( reg, and STI) Sti is probably faster on the top speed though. ( Depends if you have a 700R or a stick)
4. 93~97 Supra turbo
5. Mitsu Evo III
6. formula firehawk 96' ( lt1 based) I was supprised
7. Bone stock Ls1 will keep or beat to 110~120 - if it was modded no way I could hang on the top end - definetly would hang from a light though

This is with the reg. style AS&M runners , unported heads, unported SDPC base, only a ported plenum to remove the EGR walls and match the runner diameter. Car really doesn't feel all that fast but by the kill list, in reality it is - both from a stoplight and on the freeway

The LTR set up is great for the street- remember though I have vortecs though not TFS heads - tuned vortecs with the TPI make really good low end. from 70~100 mph in 3rd gear nothing can touch it- the acceleration is almost brutal.

All of the driver of the cars mentioned above had big eyes when a faded gray Iroc blew their doors. that's gotta be the best part.

I would guess the car runs very low 13's - car's its beat run low 13's
