EGR Changed but still same code
Guys I have just acquired a new project 89 Pontiac Formula 5.7 TPI!! And I have been trying to return the car back to normal operating condition. The previous owner tried to "experiment" with the car but nothing I can't address, anyways here is my issue:
Code 32 flashes (EGR) and I replaced the EGR and I drove it around all day yesterday and it run "okay". This morning I get in and crank the car and the SES light illuminates, I check the code and it flashes 32 AGAIN!! Keep in mind I disconnected the battery while I was RR the EGR and for good measure I waited an additional 20 minutes (XBOX Halo2 ) so I know the code had been erased previously from the initial EGR code. But now it has illuminated with the same code and I replaced said defective part!! Any suggestions as to what it may be??? It is driving me crazy!!

Code 32 means the EGR diagnostic failed. The diagnostic is when the ECM tells the EGR solenoid to open the EGR valve all the way while the ECM watches to see if the engine falters any - if it does then the test passed. If no reaction is seen by the ECM, then it sets the 32 code.
Now, that being said, this means the EGR passages could be clogged up with carbon. Did you clean them out when you changed the valve?
Also, is the vacuum line from the solenoid connected back up and in good condition? Is the EGR solenoid harness plugged into the solenoid? Is the vacuum line from the throttle body good and connected to the solenoid? Any chance the vacuum lines are reversed?
Just a few thing to check - hope this helps!

Also find out if anyone has been messing with the chip. I tweaked some stuff in a bin file and got the same code. I reset everything back to the previous setppoints and the code went away......
The code would show up when I first started the car and then it would go away on the first restart after the car was warmed up.
