305 Head Options
I would appreciate some head options for the 5.0 litre TPI. After searching this site and others this is what I have assembled so far. I want to know if you need a new intake manifold, combustion chamber size and any other relevant information.
1.Stock heads casting number 14102187 – can use existing manifold, 58cc combustion chamber, swirl port I believe
2.Stock heads casting number 14101081 – can use existing manifold, 58cc combustion chamber, good heads for flow especially high RPM's
3.World Class Torquer 305 Head – comes in 58 cc combustion chamber
4.Vortec Heads – I think you need a new intake manifold
5.Edelbrock & Holley – I think you need a new intake manifold
Please provide your thoughts on this subject. It would be useful to have a thread that assembles all the information on 5.0 litre TPI head options.

You left out the best 305 head there is, the aluminum 'vette heads. I am running them and i think they are pretty decent, check my sig.
I also didnt know Holley and Edelbrock made heads with 58cc chambers, do you have a part number for these? I just want to know if they really exist or not.

Up on further research it appears the Edelbrock heads are for the 5.7 Litre engine and Holley has a very limited range of heads. So we can eliminate these heads for the 305 engine. There are not a lot of options out there for the 305. I will investigate the 113 Vette heads more.

You did not include the new Trickflow 175cc heads for the small-bore SBC. There was a thread discussing them recently, trick flow makes heads for 305's.
Here's a link to a Summit racing page.

Ported 187s for low-end torque
Ported 081s for high end horsepower.
My old 601s are virtually identical to the 081s except for the extra bolt holes, the self aligning rocker on the 081s and perimeter bolts on the 601 vs. centerbolts on the 081s. Oh and the steeper angle on the 4 center bolts on the 081s.

one other thing to consider
Just to chime in, Edelbrock's catalogue claims that their 60cc emissions legal replacement heads (for the L98 Camaro) will work on small-bore engines IF you have a cam with less than .450" of valve lift (gross). You may want to verify this through them via their tech line (or website??). Also, World casting's website is (was, at least) out-of-date. I bought my S/R Torquer 305's in March of 2004 and was pleasantly surprised to find out that two of the machining processes they claimed I'd need weren't necessary. These include: (1) drilling for EGR exhaust crossovers. They're already done. (2) Machining the perimeter bolt bosses down to accomodate centerbolt valve covers. That's done, too. These things have to be considered as additional "costs" when you buy them. I can also attest to the fact that they are quite "beefy." One last thing to consider: There is a post on TGO somewhere about someone buying the larger chamber version of the 305 heads with the same valvesprings. LSS, a couple of the springs broke (the 1.25 inchers) I got spooked when I heard this and I bought Crane 99846's. They fit the spring pockets. If you've got a roller cam, I think this spring swap should be considered mandatory.
