Should i port the plenum

Hi,

I now have my edebrock tpi base plate and runner kit I will have it on by tomorrow but as far as the original plenum I am debating if i should port the holes out to match the bigger runner diameter.

So my question is, will doing so improve performance even more? or just very very slightly?

Also if i remove the restriction at the intake of the plenum will that affect idle? Cause i think they are there to reduce flow to the opening right behind it....

The edelbrock base plate has two location for the EGR so I closed of the one that i want need, and it is located next to the distributer. However there is a screw hole that i think has to be sealed too to prevent oil or vacum leak but i cant tell the size of the screw. Located right next to the screw that clamps down the distributor. Anyone know?

Also, I have come to reaize i have to relocate my coil !!! So much for stock replacement. Anyone have apic with new location?

Finally how can i make sure i get all the metal from grinding out of the air passages, you know those small passages that lead to the IAC valve. Should i just block them off before working on the plenum?

Thanks

The car is an 88 5.0 TPI firebird

open it up as much as you can. it's FREE horsepower.
use air compressor to blow out debris.

if you research you will find gasket matching is the best was. just do it.

also clean up the other opennings and make as smooth as possible. why wouldn't you? rather than put it together and then say, man i wish i would have done that.

i ported mine as much as i could. idle no worse than before.

mounted my coil to fire wall by distributor. just find or drill a hole and bolt it up. no worries m8.

don't know about the screw hole in base i have scroogin dickie vortec base.

good luck and do plenty of searches for information.

I'm confused. I ran the edelbrock TPI baseplate for about 5 years, and my coil was mounted on the stock bracket in the stock location.. ??

Thanks for the replies

Maybe their design has changed slightly over the years. Mine is on a 305 TPI

I mounted it on the firewall next to the distributor.

Thanks

When I put my coil on the Edelbrocik manifold I had to cut a notch out of the existing bracket rigth between the two mounting holes. Then it bolted up just fine.
