TPI Swap - dist changeout question

I am gathering all the parts for the TPI change out and have a question about the correct way to remove old distributor and install the TPI dist. The new dist only has the dist with the rotor attached on it. Do I remove my cap and mark the position of the leading edge of the rotor cap and then remove the bolt and twist out noticing the position of the rotor cap when the dist finally comes loose and reinstall TPI dist with the rotor in the same position, twist it down and then see if it lines up in the same location? Help me please because that sounds to simple and can not be right I am sure. Thanks
tony
