Cleaning throttle body

I know you should use brake or carb cleaner to clean a throttle body, but can you use a carb dip with a basket to clean it? Mine is really, really cruddy and I don't think it will clean up with a spray cleaner.

that would be fine to do.

However I do recommend getting a TB rebuild kit from the dealer and strip the throttlebody when u do.

U dont want any of the sensors in that stuff and do to age(least 13 yrs) a thourough cleaning and overhula wouldnt be a bad idea.

Thanks for the input. I was going to rebuild it anyway, just didn't know if the dip would do bad things to the metal.

I avoid dipping TBs in the harsh stuff, just stick with Mr. Gasket Throttle Body cleaner aerosol spray. Some TBs have a finish which the dips remove, next thing you know you've got surface corrosion everywhere.

Also, if you do go the dip route you'd best remove the throttle shaft and re-grease the bushing surfaces.
