Need some quick Help, ASAP!!!

Hey guys, I have a completely stock 1986 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI... I am looking into a few different things for my car but there are things I have no idea on and need help...

1. Does the 1986 305 TPI have a knock sensor on it??? If so, can I get by with gear drive or will that set something off???

2. I am looking into a new cam cuz I got the mildest cam ever... I was told about the Comp Cams XE-268 and to use that in my car... Now if I use that, will it mess up my ECU??? Also, I found this cam and am wondering if it will mess with the ECU or anything else for that matter...

I need help ASAP, cuz my car is waiting to go into the shop for a iming set replacement and if I can find a cam I may be able to get that swapped at the same time!!! PLZ HELP!!! Thanks!!!

Yes it had a knock sensor when it left the factory. I avoided gear drives as unnecessary risk, just used a Cloyes 2-row tru-roller set and never had issues.

Unless you're running massive solid-roller type valvesprings and/or a rev kit, a good double roller set will usually outlast the engine.

With any cam upgrade, your factory fuel and spark programming will be less than optimum...plan on needing software tuning no matter what cam you go with.

Unless you're ready to fork out for upgraded valvesprings too, I'd avoid a cam upgrade. Your current ones, if they're still factory, are pretty tired by now and would have trouble managing more lift.

Now, that one kit I found had valve springs and everything with it... If I get that would I really need to have computer adjustments done for it to run and be drivable??? I will definately go with a tru roller chain but if I can go with a cam and not need to do the computer work then I will do that... Thanks for your help!!!

P.S. If I would get a LT set of headers and run the car on open headers, would I damage anything??? I have stock manifolds and all and I have also driven it wide open with no exhaust... See, I wanna work on true duals and I dont have the moeny to completely change the exhaust, but slowly work at it... So the headers would be the start... Can I go for awhile if its just open headers??? Thanks again!!!
