timing question
hey i must be retarded i cant seem to figure this out...i am doing my timing and i jumped the a and b connectors under the dash while the car was on while i adjusted the timing like some chiltons manual or somethin told me and i set the timing correctly...but when i take the jumper out and check the timing, its retarded a lot...is this suppoed to be like that or should it remain the same?
...i didnt disconnect the EST bypass or whatever cuz it didnt say i had to unless it was a 91 or 92 but im not sure if this is true...if the car is running and i disconnect it however, the engine dies so i couldnt do it if i wanted to...anyone wanna help me out?
thanks guy

What you want to do is fairly easy. First, clear the ecm of all trouble codes. Then disconnect the ESC connector. If you have a TPI system then you need to set the timing to 6* Advanced. Then plug in the ESC connector. Done.

turn the key off
Don’t unplug anything with the ignition on (car running) or you may fry the Computer

whatever manual i was reading specifically said to do it with the engine running...but ill try it without...but the most important question of the day is: with it plugged in or unplugged will the timing be the same on the mark?

i disconnected the brown/black wire by the heater fan in the engine compartment
started up
set the timing to 6 degrees, shut it off, reconnnect wire
started up ran it
ran better
then went 2 degree's higher
ran even better
2 more
better
2 more and that's the sweet spot this car likes
total of 12 at idle
you will have to play to see what the car likes.
that will depend on your mods, altitude, gas, etc.
