not running when hot
not running when hot
I have been trying to relieve a problem lately with my boss' 88 tpi car. It runs fine in the morning when he leaves home but after it runs for a while and he shuts if off for a short time, it won't run very good. It will start and run long enough to back out of a parking spot but then it dies and won't hardly run until he lets it cool down for a long time. Some people have said that he has a resistance problem in the fuel pump that only occurs after the pump heats up. I have no ideas. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Zach

You'll have to start diagnosing the problem. When it experiences the no-start condition, you should test fuel pressure before anything cools or otherwise changes. That may isolate the problem or eliminate the possibility.
Hot parts can also affect the ignition system. Some HEI switching modules fail to switch primary current as they heat up, then return to "normal" after a cooling period.

I agree with Vader. the fuel pump could be heating up.
Also the ignition module on some vehicle will cut off the fuel pump if the module goes bad. They are bad about getting hot and crapping out.
