New e/t's!!

Very impressed with the car this weekend. The GTA loved the air, I went consistent 12.5x's all weekend with a best of 12.497. My mph's were in the 108-109 range all weekeend with a best of 109.99, so close to 110!!

The weekend before I took home the trophy from our local Street Class Street Car Shoot-out. Street Class is 12.50 or slower heads up racing. It's great to be having fun with the car again!

So now my dyno results are really bafling me. Since my dyno pull of 280hp and 400tq to the wheels my car keeps getting better and better. There's no way I am only making 280 with those e/t's and mph's. Especially with a 3670 race weight. I think I will go to a different dyno next time.

What all does your car have done to it? Anytime a 12 second car comes up with a 12 second run, the engine set-up should always be shared not just times. It gives comparison to different set-ups.

Glancing to your left, just under his screen name, you'll notice he's got a 383 in it...

Good job bud! Just for reference I have several runs 13.6/13.7 @ 106-107mph. Dyno results naturally aspirated (April this year) was 364 hp / 376 ft-lbs @ rear wheels. Your MPH indicates more than your dyno results. I still suck at trying to launch this manual tranny with street tires (had a 116mph trap speed with an e.t of 14.2! - kind of a squirelly ride).

My race weight is a piggish 3,850 lbs but I still carry all of the creature comforts.

My combo is similar to speed88's (Brian I think?). He has a 383 miniram with a cam in the 230ish duration at .050.

Cheers,

-Schultzy

Using the calculators available and plugging in the numbers the following came up.

Using speed and your race weight it showed 381 horsepower.
Using time and your race weight it showed 372 horsepower.

By the way very good times. I hope to be down a couple of ticks on my ET this winter. My race weight is 3760 so maybe you weigh a little less then me. Hehehehe.

Wow! One day no replys, then the next all this!

Ok..my combo is a 383 stroker. All forged bottom end balanced to 8000rpm. LT4 Hotcam (218/224, .525"/.525", 112 LSA). Ported WP Torquer heads. Miniram. BBK 58mm tb. MSD everything! Edelbrock shorties. CAI. Ported MAF. SVO 30lb'ers. 3000 stall. B&M shift kit, servo, and clutch packs. 3:73's. Torque Arm, LCA's, etc, etc. PCMFORLESS tune.

That is the meat of the setup. I dont think I missed anything, but I might have..I am half asleep here! :P

I am very pleased with my numbers considering the small head and cam package on my motor. There is a story as to why they are there, I wont get into that right now. Feel free to ask any questions!

Thx for the interest.

I don't know, you're nailing the launch quite well w/ great 60 foots and have a mountain of torque, so you're getting a good number in the 1/4 but I don't think 109mph equates to much more than 280-300 rwhp. You've got those somewhat lackluster heads, I'm just thinking a crapload of torque and decent but not stellar rwhp numbers are not out of line w/ a 12.5@109 w/ a pretty awesome launch of 1.70 or better 60'...

If you were on street tires cutting 2.0-2.1 60's you'd be back up in the 13.0 range w/ a similar trap speed, right in range with what 280/400 at the rears oughta hit IMO...

I have several runs 13.6/13.7 @ 106-107mph. Dyno results naturally aspirated (April this year) was 364 hp / 376 ft-lbs @ rear wheels.
Are you serious or is there a typo there, you're numbers don't seem to jive with your 1/4 time/mph at all to me, even with the weight?? Uncorrected 1/4 numbers from a highish altitude/DA track yet corrected dyno numbers maybe??

No typo Ray. I think you have underestimated just what a crappy driver I am

Actually those track times were the same day as the dyno. Near sea level. Track times and dyno are corrected.

It had been pouring rain all day before the track opened. I was parked in a freaking lake in the staging lanes! All that to say that I think I was spinning much more than I knew. The silly 14.2 run mentioned above was on spray and the back end kicked out after I shifted into 3rd. That was, ummm, exciting.

Had plenty of other cars that dynoed, some known combos that had been run on diff dyno's so I think the dyno was pretty accurate.

Sorry to clutter up your thread speed. I forgot that your cam was smaller. Nice track times

It's all good Schultzy!

I know my e/t's are pretty good considering my small head and cam. I am looking forward to what a decent set of heads will do next year, and I might throw in a cam if the budget can handle it. In other words if the wife doesn't want to fly south!

Why are all these cars so heavy?? I thought average weight was 3300? You know you're only supposed to take a few hand tools to the track, not your whole roll a round box

That is the weight of my car. Most of these cars are that heavy or heavier! My car at that weight has some weight redeuction, no a/c upfront, and no spare tire or jack in the back.

I hope that's with you in it!

My buddy had one that we weighed, it came in at 3357, no driver and just enough gas in the tank to register, but it had just about all the options. This was an '88 IROC, if that matters.

Ya I was wondering the same thing, my 88 Iroc L98 with all options and 1/2 tank of gas weighed only 3440 lbs. and I weigh 200 so thats 3640 race weight. Why are the rest of these cars heavier? Just curious. Larry.

Wow my berly ways 3160 with cast iron heads and water pump and full size starter and exhaust manifold, with a steel hood with a 1/4 tank of fuel. I wonder what my car would run with that combo, but with a fiberglass hood aluminum waterpump, mini starter, headers and aluminum heads?
Wow I dream of a 3rd gen that runs in the 11.90 area and knocks down good milage(6speed of course)
Is it possible?
Thanks Randy

I think it's very possible Randy, just depends on what you consider as "good mileage" Larry.

The magnum TPI project in GM high-tech perf. mag. went 11.99 @ 111 mph, if I remember right and it only made ~337 rwhp.

Point is: torque does mean something and HP is important, but HP isn't everything.

Just the 2 cents.............

Update: As you can now see from my sig my new best is a 12.41 @ 111.02 mph on the motor. And with a rich 75 shot I went 11.85 @ 114.03 mph. It was a rich fuel shot.

Welcome to the club!

We're a little far away to go for a run though, I'm all the way over here in St. John's NL. It'd be a sweet cruise though....I wonder how fast I could get to B.C.?
