base run TPI 305

Well I just ran my new car (91 formula) at the San Antonio raceway last night. Seemed a bit slow but I figure I'll get some input. 1/4 ET=15.90. 60 ft.=2.47 1/4mph=87.09. My reaction time was .5888. Car is a 305 tpi, 700r4---stock w/ 105K miles on it. SLP runners, blaster coil, edelbrock headers, 3in single exaust into a crossflow flomaster, and a chip. The car seems like a slug untill 3000rpm. Just tuned. Oh yeah and it has 2:73 posi----I ran at night but it was still 90* plus outside. Do these numbers seem right? I know, I know I need some gears--- I have a set of 3:42 just need a bearing set. Future plans involve a ramjet 327

Thats on the slow side for a 91 TPI setup.

Is your speedo gear properly matched so the VSS reads correctly?

I would do a full tune up. Cap/rotor/wires/plugs and 02 if u dont know last it was replaced(use a gm 02)

Set the TPS and IAC to spec and clean the TB out. Replace the PCV valve and give it a good once over under the hood and check everything out. Set base timing as well.

Run on the stock chip.

That 2.47 60 is what is absolutely killing you also by the way.

Get that down or get tires that hook

later

Just for the info, I have an HEAVY 88 GTA with a 305 TPI and auto trans... But I have 3.27 gears... I made a pass of 15.56... So you should be faster than me with what you did...

Like he said, do a full tune up: cap/rotor/spark plugs/spark plugs wires/PCV valve and change the oil and filter, the air filter and fuel filter.

Check the other things he said too about the TPS, IAC timing and clean the TB.

He did say "just tuned"...

I'd bet the temp and humidity got you some...maybe lost .5 from it.

Reason I say that is trhe MPH is kinda low...and wouldn't have much to so with the launch/etc.

Yes.. better gears would help on the '60 and ET, but with the low MPH's I'd look at HP loss (weather) first.

Yeah, when I first arrived at the track it was like 95* outside and I ran a 16.17. The humidity was so high I felt like I was breathing water. My next run around 10pm the temp was 89-90 and my time slightly improved --15.9 On the bright side I had the fastest third gen out there (me being the only one).

Temp, and especially HUMIDITY, will kill even the best cars. Go back near the end of the season when it's cooler and less humid, IF your track is open that late in the year.

Yes it's slow, but considering it's a 305 with an auto, it's still not too shabby Plus the 2.73 gears aren't helping that little engine any either! Don't worry, I believe under the right conditions with the right parts you'll be in the 14's no sweat
