EGR problem

I have a egr check engine code. Its only on for the first 5 minutes of it being started and if you shut it off and turn back on it will not come on for the rest of the day. When you do start it up for the first time of the day it runs real rough for the first 10 to 15 seconds and the smooths out. I have replaced my EGR selenoid and the vacuum hoses. The EGR valve is only a year old and I check out the diaphram and seems to be holding vacuum. All wires are connected and seems to be in good shape. Although I happened to break of the heat probe that goes into the EGR valve which I replaced with somthing similar. But that should not effect this because it worked fine before this issue arose. Does anyone have any ideas or similar problems. This is on a 89 GTA 5.7 TPI. Thanks in advance.

i would try and get a hold of the code 32 diagnostic flowchart from a Mitchell book or somethin similar. sounds to me like the valve itself might be bad.

I checked the valve when I did a head gasket replacement and it was holding vacuum fine and did not have much carb buildup. I want to know what would cause only effect the car when it is cold?

Sounds like the EGR switch is not functioning.
Check this out (about 1/2 way down is the EGR)
