My way to retire old tires! This was my old stock (recurved distributer and rejetted carb) carbed 305. It is 5,300 lbs, a Limp-wristed LE9 175 HP/255 ft/lbs 305, 3.08 gears, and a 700r4 spinning P235/75/R15s on a rain slick parking lot. I burned them into 3rd.

not only have I done the flame burnout, they used-to do it in the NHRA - way back when, but they did it. -
I did put in a disclaimer, and I still don't recomend this to anyone, but it has been done. - fuel spread on the ground, not a puddle will burn/ flame up real quick, but not exploded...
p.s. the van burnout is SWEEEETTTT my mom's old 4.o supposed HO explorer wouldn't burn the tires w/ them in the water at a slimy boat ramp.

not burn.
not have a cool looking flame.
FUGGIN, EXPLODE.
yes, we're all aware that liquid gasoline is not flammable, its only when its mixed with oxygen that its explosive.
yes, you could somehow (if you're retarded) extinguish a match with it...
however, if it does ignite while you try this, there is no burn. no little fire. nothing cool to look at.
just a bit of a concussion blast as the rapidly expanding gases fly out.. followed by alot of hair removing heat.

well back to the subject burnouts like myself love to do burnouts
i got to drive the Z a little bit after getting it put back together and tuned in
with 2.73 and a posi from a dead stop it smokes the new meats well up into second gears then peters out then shifts back into first for just a split second then back into 2nd gear.
the last part i can't figure out why it does that did the trans guy not get the shift kit installed rite?
but overall i think it runs pretty good for what little it has along with airplane gears out back with a posi
also since the production date is 6/90 and tittle 91 what rear end do i have it has drums on the rear. a 7.5 or a 7.625?
the reasons asking is cause i was gonna buy a rear end out of a v-6 car just for the gear set but dunno about the rear ends in them

i will be instaling a line lock once i get mw BW rear w/ discs put in i dont wanna foobar those ear discs up too much.i had mine spin though all 4 gears once coming out of school!! it was pooring down rain though speedo was almost pointing straight down. it made one hell of a show for all my friends and teachers too
since i only had 2.73's non posi it would just alernate but majority it just smoked that right rear like there was no tomarow! ill be getting new tires soon and i also just happen to have a spare set of rims w/ tires that are dry rotted too so once the new motor is fully broken in me and some friends of mine and our trusty camera will have an interesting weekend!!

I agree, to do a proper burnout in a car you'll need a line lock. It is so nice to have heating up a set of ET streets or some BFG DR's for the first time in the season.

And there are probably countless other threads that would be scattered all over for brakes, driveshafts, LCAs, transmissions, etcetera.
It's more of a self-preservation thing, I suppose.

Silly me, I did not answer the original question.
What car?
89 GTA vert, 350 auto, never tried. Probably the very first couple MPH in 1st gear. I dont think it gets a 2nd gear scratch even.
86 TA, 305 S/C auto. Little more than the GTA. Funny thing, unless there is boost its just a 305. Not very impressive unless there is pressure in the intake manifold.
86 GP, w/88 Iroc block, very few of the Iroc TPI parts, and other assorted goodies.
Whenever you feel the urge to depress the accelerator pedal... and I mean whenever. Even 80MPH. Need some drag slicks and 1000 pounds in the trunk. Proof positive that you can make all the power you want, but if you cant put it down... you will still be slow.

and ive seen 2 of my fellow firefighters killed in a semi-freak firetruck accidents while responding to a explosion.
people come out of their houses everywhere pointing us to where they heard a explosion.
until we get to this one house... with a tiny fire at the bottom of a pit in the back yard.
they didnt hear anything....... sure.
two good guys died because a group of kiddies wanted to see what happens when you throw a gas can into a bonfire...
heres a hint.
it goes boom.
was it the kids fault that they died? directly no? indirectly, maybe... but in any case, if you're going to argue about the explosive nature of gasoline, you deserve whats coming.
i can only hope you dont hurt others in the process.

Oh... closed gas can. I see, now we are changing the rules. You do realize a sealed can will sit there and heat up until it explodes, right? You can even do that with something other than gas. Water changing state from liquid to gaseous form from heating in a sealed container can do a fair amount of damage itself (or work, if thats what you want), and its neither flammable or explosive. Makes me wanna launch another Sprite bottle. Fun stuff.
May you never play with things like magnesium, sodium, lithium, cesium, or potassium, you might hurt yourself. I'll make sure to keep my collection of inert and non-inert chemicals safe and out of reach.
You are right about one thing though, most people dont understand the difference between mixing, burning, and exploding chemicals. Those people should avoid doing anything stupid at all costs lest they hurt themselves. Throwing a sealed metal 5 gallon can of diesel fuel into an already lit but not totally flaming burn pile isnt exactly the smartest thing on the face of the planet to do. Windows dont take too well to that. He has learned to use the diesel sparingly these days though, and keep the can away from the flames. That'd be a volunteer firefighter with 10 years experience and family of EMT's that did that one.
BTW:
Did any of you happen to catch a fairly recent Mythbusters? I guess this was round 2 of trying to make a gas tank explode by shooting it with a gun. Someone sent in a letter and said to use tracer bullets. Even at that, took some effort to actually make a movie-set style shoot the car gas tank and have it explode.
I also watched a 66Riv burn to the ground, old lady didnt listen. Had a fuel leak and it was dripping on the exhaust. FYI the car never did explode, as it shouldnt have either. It simply burned like your friendly fireplace type fire, until there was nothing left. Also saw a motorhome do the same, until the flames got to the propane tanks... that was a pretty cool show, I tell ya. No boom tho.

My 89 GTA vert(in stock L98 form) would burn 1st through 2nd easily unless you lifted to get it hooked up. just bring it up against the brakes till it just starts to spin, mash the gas, lift off the brake and try to keep the back from passing the front...rolling starts(5mph ish) just mash and steer...

My tires are pretty sticky and the worn out rear shocks help.
I ran a 14.9 at the track with it, dont remember having any traction issues or tire spin of any sort. Of course... was used to my dads car that spins the tires halfway down the track.

i'd make a burnout video but
A) the car is stored for the winter now and insurance is dropped temporarily
B) my 9 bolt rear is going i believe as the last burnout attempt roasted 1 tire and the other one barely spun
so i'm gettin a fresher 4 gen rear

In one of my fisrt training fires i had gotten put on the nozzle while still very green into the firefighting. the instructor had been throwing large amounts of diesel/gas mix to help get the pallets and hay burning. well i was the last group to go in so as you can imagine there was a pretty good amount of fuel and water on the floor. well they lit off the room and it all went well until i starting shutting down the nozzle. as i was shutting down the nozzle it was still flowing some as i pointed the nozzle to the florr with it still flowing (cause the instructor didn't want the fire put completely out) as i done that it pushed all of the fuel and water mix on the floor towards the base of the small fire i didn't completely put out ( instructors told me not to put it all the way out) well needless to say i know what a flash over is and it's very very hot. it burnt the instuctors air pack straps ( he was standing up in the heat ) and burnt my turnout gear. i have the video wow and that has been 7 yrs ago and i still remember/feel the heat
hey guys don't play with that mess.
id get carpel tunnel typing them all here, but i know what you mean about the heat.... like many of natures forces, you just cant respect/understand it until you see/feel it for yourself..
CrazyHawaiian:
speaking of doughnut/burnout mayhem, remember what i said about no steering stops on my car?
ive discovered a new burnout... i can lock the inside front wheel while doing a doughnut by shoving it on the frame... makes for super fast tight doughnuts... i was actually getting dizzy in my car! lol.
i have 2 pairs of old tires im going to tear up this weekend.. im getting my 9" next week, so who cares if i burn up the posi a little? lol
