86 T/A TPI Air Inlet Assembly

Does anyone make an Air intake to replace the restrictive box and Tubing in an 86 T/A with a MAF TPI? I have looked with no luck so far. Thank You

SLP Makes an induction kit, its a couple hundred dollars, also if you search around on the internet or probably this forum you a can find out how to make your own for a lot less.

That system really leaves a lot to be desired, doesn't it? I have the same problem, err, "opportunity" on my '86 TA. I've found a place that offers lots of custom intake pieces, but haven't yet tried it myself:

You could also get this part from the dealer:

That's GM P/N 25147187, about $53.00 It is produced with a small hole at the outer edge of the elbow, which would either need to be plugged or might make a suitable location for a relocated MAT/IAT sensor.

To complete that portion of the project you would need one of each of these items:

Sensor, Intake Air Temp P/N 17111662, $11.48;
Connector, Sensor, AIT, (2-Way female) P/N 12102620, $13.84;
Connector, Sensor, AIT, (2-Way male) P/N 15326386, $13.85;
Five feet of AWG16 wire in your favorite colors.

Wire the connector to an extension harness, connect it to the existing plug next to the distributor, and abandon the old MAT on the underside of the plenum.

Then adapt the duct elbow to the MAF sensor on the other end with the products at the above web site, or any piece of plastic pipe.

Yeah the SLP one does, especially since its still underhood. But it was the only one I could think of off the top of my head, adn if your on a really tight budget you can make your own. Otherwise I'm sure there are other options to be found if you can find custom pieces.

I found the most restrictive part on the 86 TA was the canister.
I removed the canister, took the stock paper air filter amd taped a piece
of cardboard over one end, and it wiggled right on the end of the
MAF. I then test drove it, and it made a bunch of difference from
4000-4500 rpm.(The peanut cam is out of power at 4500).
I then changed to a K&N. Inside the canister itwas still falling
down in the 4000-4500 rpm range. I then put it on the end of the MAF
as before, and it woke it right up. I could not notice a big improvement
with the K&N over the paper when it wason the end of the MAF, but I
am sure there was some. I then removed the plastic piece that goes
from the bellows to the MAF and replaced it with a 3 inch piece of exhaust pipe.
(Change to a elbow at this point). In seat of the pants testing,
I did not notice any more performance than thru the black plastic piece.
(That's with a K&N filter.) My total cost was under $10.00.

For a cheaper alternative use an 88-89 tpi air intake tubes.
