ecm problems
ecm problems
ive been putting together a tpi setup on an 89 camaro. it ran but like crap. i had exhaust backing up into the engine compartment and very little pressure out the back. the car would run only if i didnt have the MAF sensor unplugged. i took the cat off. my car doesnt run anymore. the injectors are getting two positives when the computer is plugged in.the ecm should control the ground. why would it give me a postive? do you think its my ecm.could it be a maf burn off relay or something do you think it was in some kind of limp home mode until it completely shut down.
start by checking the grounds. There's like 6 and if you missed one, you'll have issues. Next, make sure no wires got pinched. - that's the first things I'd check. If you run w/o the MAF, then you're in limp mode.

When the ign is on and the ECM is not trying to open the inj, you will have power on one wire from ign switch. The other wire will read positive too due to power going thru the inj. The ecm does not send power to the injs, it only provides a ground. You can test this by turning on ign switch with the ECM unplugged from the harness, check inj wires. You will find a positive reading on both inj wires.

ok, i got a new ecm and prom. my car runs now but i still have the problem of the MAF. the car runs and idles without it plugged in. when i go to plug it in the car runs like crap and wants to stall every time i try to give it throttle and it doesnt idle. it will only run for a few seconds and gives up any ideas. is there any way of checking the MAF?
