new motor burns oil on startup

Well ever since i got the 355 back from the machineshop...its always burned oil on start up. The guy got my heads too and he did the valve seals and all that stuff that would normally cause this. I know the rings need time to seat and whatever...but ive probably put near...500-1,000 miles on her now and i figure they should have seated by now (someone told me that could be causing the smoke too). Anybody have any ideas? it doesnt burn oil when driving at all or revving for that matter. Its only on start up.

If its only on startup, I would look toward the valve seal area.

Maybe wrong oens were fitted or if anything was cut down or remachinged there could be issues.

Or some problem guides even.

More than likely a valve stem seal issue I would guess.

Specially cause u complain of it only on start up.

Nother thing to note, is the smoke bluish white or black? If its darker in color it could be a tuning or injector issue(didnt say carbed or inj)

later

its fuel injected. Wierd thing is sometimes i swear it looks grey...other times it has a bluish tint. And the smell is hard to describe, but i would lean more towords burning oil.

I had the same problem. Ended up being crappy valve seals (they cracked and wore oddly) and 2 crappy injectors. Except mine never stopped smokeing after startup. It did it all the time. After replaceing all 8 of my stock injectors and a couple of hours replaceing all of the valve seals. No problem... Kind of embarassing when you tell people it has a new engine and it puffing out more oil than valvoline can produce.

my mistake guys...its actually grey smoke. Sometimes its a huge cloud of it on startup...other times its a small puff and other times it doesnt do it at all. Smells like gas too...could it possibly be a leaky injector?
