I just did a TBI to TPI conversion on my 91' chevy truck. I used a painless wire harness. I simply unplugged all TBI connections and removed the TBI ECM. I did not rip the old wires out of the truck, I tucked them away. The only problem I ran into with the painless harness was the relays had to be about 6" from the ECM. I had room in the dash to do this, but you won't in a Camaro. Ask Painless if they offer a longer harness that allows the relays to be under the hood like a standard TPI camaro. I also wound up having to lengthen some of the connections to other sensors, but that was because of my truck accessories which wouldn't envolve your camaro ( I had to convert my Alt and Air brackets over to make room for the MAF and air intake). Painless included an addon wire connection for my distributor and coil, but I had to use the old wires that ran from the distributor to the coil, not a big deal. All my TPI cars have the smaller distributor with a remote coil, but Painless makes the harness to work with a distributor that has the coil in it!!!
Harness comes with good instructions, just study up on what you're doing and you'll be ok.
Make sure you hookup the ignition power for the ECM to an ignition that does not get turned off when in crank mode!!!! I spliced into the original TBI ECM inputs for battery, ignition, along with VSS, brake switch, and park/neutral.

No problem, I'll try to help. I didn't have to worry about VATS on my conversion because I used an 88' ECM.
Is the TPI system a MAF (86-89) or Speed Density (90-92)?
Do you have to smog it?
I successfully passed the smog test with my 87' IROC in California using AFR heads with no heat risers, meaning that the EGR valve I installed was sitting on a closed chamber! I also did the same thing on my truck by using an intake gasket that had a metal piece closing off the heat riser. I did this because I didn't want to worry about the EGR working properly. The smog guys can't test an EGR valve on TPI because they can't get to it!!! Both my vehicles run fine this way.
