is my cam bad?
ok first this isnt related to my car troubles i posted last week. just something i started thinking about after reading a thread on the local fbody board about people having problems with cam quality.
i have a 74219 LPE cam sitting in my room right now and after reading about the trouble people have had with FMS cams here recently i decided to pull it out and look at it. somehow theres some rust on the cam between a couple lobes and the part that rides ont he cam bearings (brain fart forgot the name..) and also on that same piece that rides on the bearings, there is a small gouge or something in the machined metal. you can feel it with your finger but just barely and its too small to take a picture of. is the cam trash or is it ok?

If u can feel it with your finger its too big to risk riding it on a bearing.
Most of the time small imperfections can be polished out.
If u dont feel comfortable, I'm sure any good maching shop would be able to do it for you for a nominal fee.
Anything that I know is going to sit around awhile, either gets oiled(short term) or I wipe grease on it or cosmoline spray
later
