Cowl Induction intake!
Cowl Induction intake!
Alright well I just joined to put a link to an ebay auction and thought I would give some people an idea possibly. First off I will say that this was an idea to purely get consistancy out of my tpi motor and it worked. I had a cowl induction hood on my '91 z28 when I bought it. It just had a K&N air filter on the throttle body and did not like the hot air coming off the radiator. I decided to make my cowl functional by sealing it off by fiberglassing the sheet metal and putting a pvc elbow straight up from the TB to get air through the hood. The next step was filtration. As you can see in the pictures I built a box and bought some cheap walmart filters and cut them to fit the shape of my hood. The box comes off for easy access to the filters. I used expandable foam to hold the filters and to make it air tight. I used expandable foam to hold the box on as well but that's only temporary. Hear's some pictures for anyone interested in the setup. I gained consistancy in temperature changes and I gained throttle response. I'm not absolutely positive that it gained me any power but it surely didnt hurt.

Get some gas shocks there, that plastic air box is not very forgiving.
Don't know of any gains there either...but HEY whats that thing strapped on the back? Looks shiny.

haha I was waiting for someone to chime in on the looks. The reason I haven't painted it yet is because I just built a new motor and want to make sure the stealth ram on it will clear before I paint it. It will all be black and instead of expanda-foam there will be black foam. The box in the back is where the filters are at. That's what makes them accessible to change. If there is clearance it will be painted black and cleaned up. Keep in mind I had a week to do this to before test and tune so I was in a hurry but then it ended up raining. Since I have done SBC's and LCA's. It went a 14.97 with 4000 DA. As for the gas shocks I took them off because they cracked the fiberglass hood and caused me to have to rebuild the corners.
