any reason you are running stock heads on a 383? i would suggest if possible to go with some aftermarket heads and a custom speced cam from one of the major companies. your best bet if you go with aftermarket heads might be to contact one of the many lt1 tuning shops and ask them about a custom grind cam. custom grinds are the same price for the most part as off the shelf grinds but will be a much better combination.
I'd say its small for a 383. I'm running much larger on a 355, but I do have good heads. - I hope you atleast port the crap outta the stock heads or having a 383 isn't gonna gain you much over a mild modded 350.

stay under a .500 lift with stock heads/springs or you'll be sorry, the last thing you wanna do is break a spring
