TPS SENSOR

when i check my tps sensor with tunerpro it only shows 4.5 volts wide open, & .50 at idle- is this correct? if i take the sensor out & test i can get it to go up to 4.92 volts but the throttle lever(fully open) does not push it far enough to get it to that point

You are good to go... I set my TPS voltage at 0.62V at idle, at WOT it reads about 4.2V... I have an '87 car, so my TPS is adjustable.

But, your values are OK, unless you notice some TPS related problem.

I always thought that it need to read 5 volts at WOT - 4.2 is far off

The ECM will know there's a problem and set a code if the voltage goes below the minimum, or above the maximum. So it needs at least a 1/2v above and below the TPS total span to be able to determine when the TPS is out of range.
