Idle down!

Hey guys,Was wondering if there is a way to change the time it takes the engine to idle down from initial start to the time the rpm falls to mormal, more once the engine is warm??? It seems to hang a long time, maybe 10 seconds.
Talking about a 86 and 88 305 TPI. Can be hard on the drive train if you dont wait for it to come down, especially the 86.I read they tend to go into gear harder anyhow with those year 700's.Is it strictly a computer program? thanks Allan

First check your IAC motor and the passage in the throttle body to see if they're dirty. Second, you'd need a custom chip with the idle speeds changed and the IAC stepper time decreased to affect the idle that much. The reason why it starts up idling so high and then drops slowly is because the IAC is wide open at startup to allow maximum air into the engine so it starts easier. Then it takes a couple seconds for it to close down to normal idle speeds.
