I recently purchased a 1992 formula with 5.7 TPI. It needs a fuel pump as the pressure does not hold once the pump stops. Already replaced injectors and AFPR.

Anyways, I have a TPI pump from my 1991 formula. I took itout about 6 years ago when I upgraded to a 255 pump and it has been sitting in a box ever since. It had 28,000 miles on it when I pulled it.

Should I reuse it? Is there anything that can go bad from being in contact with fuel and then sitting for a long time?

 

Connect power and run it in a mild solvent breifly to make sure it flows any accumulated crud out of it. I would suspect that the storage would not have harmed it in any way, other than the residual varnish that would have been left after all the fuel evaporated off.

 

Idk, see a fuel pump is not something that you'd want to have replaced. If you do have a problem with the pump, you are going to have to go through the entire process of re-installing it. Even if it does work out fine, it is already 6 years old, and 6 years closer to having to put a new one in.

Imo, i would just take the safe route and get a brand new pump, and save myself the hassle in the long run. I love it when I have free parts lying around that I can use, but a fuel pump wouldn't be one of them.

 

one more vote for new. unless you hack a hole in your car, changing the fuel pump is a PITA, why do it more often then you have too? buy a new one.
