Hypertech chips any good?
Hypertech chips any good?
HI all.
I have a 305 TPI engine with a Holley stealth Ram.
I noticed that there was a Hypertech performance chip insalled by the last owner.
I also found out that it's running 22lb injectors.
Beofre knowing this I went and got a set of 19lb injectors. I also had a new Ac Delco Chip made for it and it was set up to run the 19lb injectors.
The 22lb ones that are in there are a bit of a mix and match and they are a bit old, so if I keep them and the hypertech chip I will have to look at getting new 22lb ones to work with the Hypertech chip or if I wold gain more more I will use my new 19lb ones with my Ac Delco chip.
Any thoughts?
Are these Hypertech chips any good, and do they really make that much difference over a stock style Ac Delco one?

Correct me if im wrong but the hypertech (not sure what it was for) i loaded up in tuner pro showed it turned the knock retard to 0 degrees/ms and raised the recovery rate to 195%/second. Also it advanced the timing to an insane amount. Your safer with a stock chip til you can program your own.

It was the same what formula said with the aftermarket chip which, to my surprise, I discovered in my ECM when modifying it to accept Craig Moates' adapter and Zif-socket.
Speed limiter set to 150 mph, timing bumped up 6 to 10 degrees over the main SA table, knock retard zeroed out and the engine pinging like crazy even under light load despite I was fueling it with expensive premium fuel.
Put the stock chip back in. Stock chips are not as bad as one might think as long as you have a stock (or near stock) engine. Learn to make your own chips. It's the most fun for the least money (around $ 130 for the adapter, four chips, the zif-socket an a little bit of soldering) I have tinkering with my engine for 1 1/2 years now. You'll love it!

HYPERTECH IS JUNK!!!!
One of the first thing s I did to my GTA when I bought it 10 years ago was a chip, thermostat, and cool fan switch. I was so excited about the new power I was going to have. I backed the car out of the driveway and went for a run..... FELT NO DIFFERENCE IN THE CAR AT ALL!!!
Waste of money!!!

i have a jet chip(love it )
try using the 19lbs injector with more pressure w/ the hypertech chip.
unless you have problems with spark knock already. in any case you cant go wrong with the AC delco chip and the 19lbs injectors.

the only difference i noticed with a hypertech chip was the rev limiter was disabled. it would go up to about 6200 instead of 5200 rpm.
I paid 450 dollars for my Hypertech "custom" chip. It doesnt work worth a ----. I called them up and asked them if they had disabled the EGR as I had asked and they said no, that's part of the smog equipment and we can't touch it. I asked them why I had to sign a statement saying the chip was for offroad use only and they said that still didn't matter. Then I added 30lb injectors and called and asked if I needed to get the chip recalibrated and they said "you can't do that". I said I already have and they said "you can't do that". So much for "custom" chips. Well I've learned a lot more about the system since then and that is why I am at this site, so I can learn how to do it myself.
Well it seems that I might be best to just go the Ac Delco factory one then.
I will install the 19lb injectors once they get here and then Chip and Injectors are factory mated items.
What involved in getting equipment and chips to do this stuff yourself?
What sort of costs for the equipment I need and is there much more to be gained over a stock chip on a mild to stock engine?

A friend of mine have a camaro -88, bonestock. He always complained that it have a rough idle for a stock engine. This weekend we pulled the chip and it was a custom made chip from J*T..... I went home and burned a new one, a slightly modified ARAP.bin and he very satisfied, even his girlfriend noticed it
Havent had time to tuning it at WOT yet, but the car starts easier, Idles down quicker, much more stable idle, and more power....
Havent had time to check the "other" chip yet and see what they have done, but I will.........

I had a bone-stock L98, and I put the HyperTech chip in it and I was pleased with the response, compared to the factory programming. I kept the HT chip in the car while I made other mods (exhaust, intake, etc). I had to go to DIY burn-my-own when I swapped out the cam.
